How Do I Choose the Right Sized Lamp Shade to Fit My Lamp Base?

Ideally the height of the shade will need to be approximately around two-thirds of the height of the lamp stand. It’s important to get the right proportions. A shade that is too tall will not look good, and neither will one that is too short. It will make the lamp look to be out of balance. The switch should not be visible when your lampshade is fitted.

With regards to the width of the shade, start by measuring your lamp base and now double it. In addition, your lampshade should be at least half an inch wider than the widest part of your base. If you’re going to position the lamp in a place where there is not a lot of room, then you should really go for a slightly narrower shade to prevent accidents from occurring in hallways etc.

Do Your Shades Fit Larger Lamp Bases?

All our lampshades measuring less than 80cm in Diameter, will fit a standard bayonet cap (BC) lamp holder and an Edison Screw (E27 or ES) lamp holder by simply removing the converter plug in the centre of the fitting.

Our larger 100cm diameter shades come with 3 x standard bayonet cap (BC) lamp holders which can be converted to fit E27 lamp holders by removing the U.K. converter plugs.

What Are the Dimensions of Your Lampshade Fittings?

All our shades are fitted with 40mm (E27 / ES) European ring fittings and fitted with an adaptor for UK fittings (29mm).

Do You Make Other Shapes?

Yes, we also make empire, coolie, french drum, oval and rectangle lamp shades, please contact us for further details.

What Wattage Lightbulbs are Suitable?

We recommend using low energy lightbulbs or a maximum of 60 Watts.

Are Your Lampshades Flame Retardant?

Yes. All the lampshades we manufacture have been tested by The Lighting Industry Association and have passed the glow wire test to conform to British Standards for luminaires BS EN 60598-1:2015. Test reports are available on request.

What is a Diffuser?

Each of our ceiling pendant drum shades can be used with a diffuser. The diffuser sits underneath the shade when it is used as a pendant shade, covering the light bulb and diffusing the light. When a diffuser is in place your eye is drawn to the material of the shade rather than bulb. We offer two types of diffuser, a white diffuser with a hole in the centre and a frosted opaque diffuser. Our diffusers are easy to fit and remove, so you can swap and change them as you wish. You find more information by reading our blog.
