Literary characters we love (and their lampshades)

Despite many nay-sayers, it seems that book reading is alive and well in the UK, with three-quarters of British people reporting finishing a book within the past 12 months.

At the Lampshade Co, we’ve got many an avid reader amongst our ranks. Which got us thinking – what if characters, were lampshades? So we hope you’re sitting comfortably, because this is how we believe the story would unfold…

  1. Catherine and Heathcliff – Wuthering Heights

Ahhh, the mystifying Wuthering Heights – the deep, dark romance, the dramatic landscapes, the brooding weather. It’s a novel full of atmosphere. While doomed to their fates, there’s no denying the underlying romance of Cathy and Heath’s story, so if they were a lighting type, they would be the two faux flames of a beautiful, traditional twin wall light.

  1. Pippi Longstocking

She’s bright, bold and unafraid – and she does everything on her own terms. If this little firecracker were a light type, there’s no way she’d want anything less than a combo she’d created. So with that in mind, she’d be a mix and match lamp base, with a lampshade that features her trademark white and red.

  1. Patrick Bateman – American Psycho

Now for the character we’re meant to love to hate. So he may have been a maniac serial killer, but hey – the guy had some serious style. If he were any type of lighting, it would probably an ultra-modern, uber-cool LED ceiling light.

  1. Matilda Wormwood – Matilda

Brilliant and headstrong in equal measure, Matilda is simply magical. For this little girl with the massive imagination, her choice of lampshade would definitely be the Little Sanderson Abracazoo Treasure Map.

  1. Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games

Fearless and brave beyond boundaries, Katniss is not afraid to take a stand, so her lighting style would definitely be one that makes an unforgeable statement. That said, with her clear love for her family and only wish to go home, we’d wager our bets that she mixes contemporary style with traditionalist chic when it comes to interior design. All in all, we’d say she’d light up with the Smoke Glass Dome & Glass Beads Ceiling Light.

Hopefully we’ve inspired you with a few novel ideas for overhauling your at-home lighting. But if you’re still feeling stuck, you may want to explore our lighting collections room by room…
